Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information SplitSheet handles, why we use it, when it is shared, and the choices available to you. It applies when you use the SplitSheet website and application.

Effective August 20, 2026

1. Information you provide

Account information. We collect your email address, authentication details managed through our authentication provider, and information needed to create and secure your account.

Songwriter profile information. You may provide a display name, legal name, phone number, avatar, performing rights organization (PRO), IPI/CAE number, publisher information, and sharing preferences. Some profile fields are optional, and the application provides controls for whether certain details are shared with song collaborators.

Writing-room content. We process the songs and writing sessions you create or join, including titles, lyrics, notes, worktapes and other audio uploads, collaborators, writer details, split proposals and confirmations, invitations, timestamps, and version history.

Organization information. Publisher / Label features process organization names, owners, accepted memberships, roster information, and email-bound invitations.

Support communications. If you contact us, we receive your name, email address, selected support category, message, and any other information you choose to include.

2. Billing information

We process subscription and billing status information such as your plan, Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, price identifier, subscription status, current billing period end, and whether cancellation is scheduled. Payment-card details are entered into and processed by Stripe’s hosted Checkout and billing tools; SplitSheet does not directly store your full payment-card details.

3. Technical information

When you use SplitSheet, the application and its infrastructure may process basic technical, request, and security information such as IP address, browser or device type, request timing, page or endpoint requested, error information, and authentication or security events. We use this information to deliver the service, diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and protect accounts.

SplitSheet uses cookies and similar browser storage that are necessary for authentication, session continuity, security, and core features. For example, authentication cookies keep you signed in, browser-local storage can preserve an unsaved lyrics draft, and a small service-worker cache supports the offline fallback page. The current application does not add third-party advertising trackers or a separate behavioral analytics service.

4. How we use information

We use information to:

  • create, authenticate, maintain, and secure accounts;
  • provide writing rooms and store, synchronize, and display their content;
  • enable invitations, collaboration, realtime updates, and split recordkeeping;
  • record and deliver private worktapes and other user-directed uploads;
  • operate organization membership and roster features;
  • process subscriptions, apply plan access, and provide billing support;
  • send transactional messages such as verification and invitation emails;
  • answer support, privacy, billing, and copyright requests;
  • detect fraud, abuse, unauthorized access, and technical problems; and
  • maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the reliability and usability of SplitSheet.

5. Collaboration and sharing

SplitSheet is designed for collaboration. When you join a song, information and content associated with that song may be visible to its legitimate collaborators according to the service’s controls. When you accept an organization invitation, the organization owner can see roster information intended for organization management, but organization membership by itself does not grant access to private songs belonging to other users.

You choose whom to invite and what to enter or upload. Other users may retain information you have intentionally shared with them outside SplitSheet. Public invitation previews reveal limited information needed to identify the invitation; joining private content requires authentication and a valid invitation.

6. Service providers

We disclose information to providers that process it for us as needed to operate SplitSheet:

  • Supabase provides authentication, database, realtime, and private file-storage infrastructure.
  • Stripe provides subscription checkout, payment processing, billing records, and the customer billing portal.
  • Resend delivers transactional email, including organization invitations and support messages sent through the Contact form. Supabase’s configured email delivery supports authentication messages.
  • Vercel hosts and deploys the SplitSheet web application and processes requests and operational logs.

We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users or the service, investigate fraud or security issues, enforce our terms, or complete a business transaction such as a merger or sale subject to appropriate safeguards.

SplitSheet does not sell personal information. We do not disclose personal information for third-party targeted advertising.

7. Data retention

We retain information while your account is active and for as long as reasonably needed to provide SplitSheet, maintain collaborative and transaction records, protect the service, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal obligations. Different information can have different retention periods.

Canceling a subscription does not automatically delete your account, songs, or other content. Publisher cancellation or downgrade does not automatically delete organization and roster data; those features may instead become inactive or read-only. Browser-local lyrics drafts remain on the device until they are reconciled, cleared by the application, or removed through browser controls.

8. Security

We use technical and organizational measures intended to protect information, including authentication, access controls, private storage, row-level database rules, and encrypted network connections provided by our infrastructure. No system is completely secure, and we cannot promise that unauthorized access, loss, or misuse will never occur. Protect your password, secure your devices, and contact us if you suspect an account problem.

9. Your choices and requests

You can update many profile fields and sharing preferences in SplitSheet, control whom you invite to songs, revoke pending invitations where available, and manage your paid subscription through the billing portal. Browser settings can remove cookies or local storage, but doing so may sign you out, remove a recoverable local draft, or impair core features.

To ask for access, correction, or deletion of account data, or to raise a privacy question, email hello@thesplitsheetapp.com. We may need to verify your identity and account authority. Some deletion requests require controlled handling because songs, collaboration, organizations, billing, and split records involve other users or legal obligations. Rights and available exceptions vary by location.

10. Children’s privacy

SplitSheet is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action. Users who are not old enough to enter a binding contract where they live should use SplitSheet only with a parent or legal guardian’s involvement.

11. U.S. and international use

SplitSheet and its providers may process and store information in the United States and other places where they operate. If you use SplitSheet from another country, your information may be transferred to a location with different data-protection laws. Where required, we and our providers use appropriate mechanisms for those transfers.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as SplitSheet, our providers, or legal requirements change. We will post the revised policy and update its effective date, and provide additional notice if required for material changes.

13. Contact

For privacy or data requests, use our Contact page or email hello@thesplitsheetapp.com.
