Terms of Service

These Terms explain the rules for using SplitSheet and the responsibilities that come with keeping a writing room together. Please read them before creating an account or using the service.

Effective August 20, 2026

1. Accepting these Terms

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are an agreement between you and SplitSheet (“SplitSheet,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By creating an account, accessing SplitSheet, accepting an invitation, or otherwise using the service, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use SplitSheet.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 13 years old and legally able to enter into these Terms. If you are not old enough to enter a binding contract where you live, a parent or legal guardian must review and agree to these Terms for you.

Provide accurate registration and profile information, keep it current, protect your password and account access, and tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized use. You are responsible for activity under your account unless applicable law says otherwise. You may not share credentials in a way that bypasses account or plan limits.

3. What SplitSheet does

SplitSheet is a collaboration and recordkeeping workspace for songwriting rooms. Depending on your plan and the features available, it can help users create writes, invite collaborators, maintain lyrics and notes, upload or record worktapes, store songwriter information, and propose or confirm split records.

Features may change, improve, be removed, or be offered as beta or preview functionality. Beta features may be incomplete or change without notice. SplitSheet does not promise that every feature will always be available or work without interruption.

4. Plans and usage limits

SplitSheet currently offers Free, Pro, and Publisher / Label plans. The Free plan is $0 and allows an account to create up to 10 lifetime writing sessions. Deleting, leaving, finishing, or otherwise changing a write does not restore a creation allowance. Pro and Publisher / Label provide the paid features described on the Plans page and in our Billing & Cancellation Policy.

Publisher / Label includes organization and managed-writer roster features, subject to the current seat limits. An organization membership is separate from a writer’s personal plan and does not transfer the owner’s paid plan, billing rights, private catalog, or song access to a member.

5. Subscriptions and billing

Paid plans are subscriptions billed through Stripe. When you start a paid subscription, you authorize recurring monthly charges at the displayed price, plus any applicable taxes, until the subscription is canceled. Pro is currently $9.99 per month and Publisher / Label is currently $99.99 per month.

You can manage or cancel a subscription through the “Manage subscription” control in SplitSheet. Cancellation ordinarily takes effect at the end of the current paid billing period, and paid access remains available through that period when cancellation is scheduled for period end. Except where required by applicable law, payments are nonrefundable and we do not provide prorated refunds or credits for unused time.

We may change prices or paid-plan terms in the future with reasonable advance notice. Continued use of a paid plan after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance to the extent permitted by law. Stripe’s services and terms also apply to payment processing.

6. Your content stays yours

“User Content” includes songs, compositions, lyrics, notes, worktapes, recordings, songwriter and contact information, PRO and IPI/CAE information, publisher information, split proposals and confirmations, files, messages, and anything else users enter, upload, record, or share through SplitSheet.

You retain ownership of your User Content. Storing material in SplitSheet does not give SplitSheet ownership of your songs, compositions, lyrics, sound recordings, copyrights, publishing rights, master rights, royalties, or other intellectual property.

You grant SplitSheet a limited, nonexclusive, worldwide license to host, process, store, transmit, display, reproduce for technical purposes, and, where the service supports it, back up your User Content solely as reasonably necessary to provide, secure, maintain, and operate SplitSheet. This license ends when the content is deleted from our systems, subject to legal, security, shared-record, and technical retention needs.

7. Your content responsibilities

You represent that you have the rights and permissions needed to enter, upload, record, and share your User Content and to grant the limited service license above. Do not upload material that infringes someone else’s copyright, privacy, publicity, confidentiality, contractual, or other rights.

You are responsible for deciding whom to invite and what to share. Invited collaborators may be able to view, edit, download, play, or otherwise use shared room material according to the product’s controls. SplitSheet cannot control what an authorized collaborator does outside the service, so share unreleased or confidential material thoughtfully.

8. Splits and songwriter records

SplitSheet records information users provide and the responses writers make in the service. It is a collaboration and recordkeeping tool; it does not independently investigate or determine copyright ownership, authorship, legal entitlement, royalty shares, or whether a split is valid or enforceable.

SplitSheet is not a performing rights organization, music publisher, record label, attorney, accountant, collection society, royalty administrator, copyright office, e-signature provider, or substitute for a written agreement. Users are responsible for confirming final credits, ownership, registrations, and splits, and for obtaining legal, tax, accounting, or music-business advice when appropriate.

9. Organizations

Publisher / Label owners may invite writers to an organization roster. Owners are responsible for their invitations, roster administration, and lawful use of member information. Membership does not give an organization rights in a member’s personal songs, account, plan, or intellectual property, and does not give a member access to another user’s private catalog unless the user is separately added as a song collaborator.

If a Publisher / Label subscription becomes inactive, organization management features may become read-only or unavailable. Existing roster information is not automatically deleted solely because paid access ends.

10. Prohibited conduct

You may not:

  • use SplitSheet for unlawful, fraudulent, abusive, harassing, deceptive, or infringing activity;
  • access or attempt to access another person’s account, private room, invitation, content, or systems without authorization;
  • upload malware, destructive code, illegal material, or content you do not have the right to use;
  • probe, disrupt, overload, bypass, reverse engineer, or interfere with security, rate limits, access controls, or the normal operation of the service;
  • scrape, crawl, or use automated means to extract data except through an interface we expressly authorize;
  • misrepresent identity, authorship, ownership, splits, affiliations, or invitation authority; or
  • help anyone else do any of the above.

11. Copyright and IP concerns

If you believe material in SplitSheet infringes your rights, email hello@thesplitsheetapp.com. Include enough information for us to understand and locate the material, identify the protected work or right, contact you, and evaluate your concern. Please also explain your good-faith basis for the claim and whether you are the rights owner or authorized to act for one.

We may request additional information, restrict access to disputed material, notify the affected user, or take other reasonable steps. This contact process does not represent that SplitSheet has a registered DMCA agent.

12. Availability and data care

We work to keep SplitSheet useful and available, but the service is provided without a guarantee of uninterrupted access, error-free operation, permanent storage, backups, recovery, or preservation of any particular version. Internet, device, browser, third-party provider, maintenance, and security issues can affect availability. Keep independent copies of material you cannot afford to lose.

13. Suspension and termination

You may stop using SplitSheet at any time. We may suspend, restrict, or terminate access when reasonably necessary to protect users or the service, address suspected violations, comply with law, respond to security or payment issues, or discontinue the service.

Ending an account or subscription does not necessarily delete User Content immediately. Collaborative records may involve other users, and some information may be retained where reasonably necessary for security, dispute resolution, legal obligations, transaction records, or controlled deletion. Contact hello@thesplitsheetapp.com for an account or data deletion request. Canceling a subscription alone does not delete songs or content.

14. Third-party services

SplitSheet relies on third-party services, including providers for authentication, database and file storage, hosting, email delivery, and payment processing. Your use of their interfaces may also be subject to their terms and privacy practices. We are not responsible for third-party services outside our reasonable control.

15. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SplitSheet is provided “as is” and “as available.” We disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, noninfringement, and any warranty arising from course of dealing or usage of trade. We do not warrant creative, commercial, legal, royalty, registration, collaboration, or split outcomes. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

16. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SplitSheet and its operators, affiliates, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, royalties, revenue, data, goodwill, opportunities, or content, arising from or related to the service—even if advised that such loss is possible.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability for all claims relating to the service will not exceed the greater of $100 or the amount you paid SplitSheet during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. These limits do not apply where liability cannot legally be limited.

17. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless SplitSheet and its operators and affiliates from third-party claims, losses, and reasonable costs arising from your User Content, your violation of these Terms or law, your infringement of another person’s rights, or your misuse of the service. This obligation does not apply to the extent a claim results from SplitSheet’s own unlawful conduct.

18. Governing law

Except where mandatory law provides otherwise, these Terms and disputes relating to them are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee and applicable U.S. federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts with proper jurisdiction in Tennessee will be the venue for disputes that cannot be resolved informally. Nothing here removes consumer rights that cannot be waived under applicable law.

19. Changes and general terms

We may update these Terms as SplitSheet changes. We will post the revised Terms and update the effective date, and provide additional notice when a change is material and notice is required. Continued use after revised Terms take effect means you accept them.

If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect. A delay in enforcing a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer these Terms without our consent; we may transfer them as part of a merger, financing, reorganization, sale, or transfer of the service, subject to applicable law. These Terms and referenced policies are the entire agreement about your use of SplitSheet.

20. Contact

Questions about these Terms can be sent through our Contact page or by email to hello@thesplitsheetapp.com.
